TARGET & SETTINGS

Logistics represents the glue between the economies in Europe and is fundamental to the cooperation in pan-European and global supply networks. At the same time a lot of the potential in the world spanning logistics networks is lost due to the underutilization of the given resources and the ecological as well as economic impacts of this underutilization. A common industrial effort is required to deal with the economic and ecologic challenges ahead for the logistics sector.

In particular, ICT prototypes and solutions need to be turned into the facilitation of sustainable logistics leading to higher margins for the industry and cleaner logistics operations for the society.

The 6th ECITL 2013 will pick-up this topic and will put the use of ICT for innovation in Transport Logistics in the center of the conference. The goal is to identify the upcoming challenges while taking into account solutions in development. Topics to be discussed:

  • The future role of ICT for logistics
  • Obstacles to the uptake of innovative ICT in the logistics sector
  • Expected Impact of European IT project solutions on the logistics industry
  • Developing ICT that will foster the uptake of sustainable logistics operations through integrating information from smart emission measuring systems and providing the right ICT solutions for advanced collaborative planning
  • Explore the potential of intelligent cargo solutions, especially their impact on creating a semantics enabled pan-European ecosystem for freight transport
  • Identify and define the role of new ICT solutions for logistics operations, amongst them - but not limited to – semantics, entity-centric approaches and devices as well as standards for integration of services across company borders
